Productions
This season we are offering three productions in our package. We have negotiated the exclusive rights to these shows for 18 months from the date of the first performance.
1. AN EVENING WITH GARY LINEKER by Chris England and Arthur Smith
An uproarious success when it hit the Edinburgh Fringe in 1991, this play transferred to the West End in December of that year and was nominated for Best Comedy in the 1992 Olivier Awards. It is the evening of July 4th, 1990 and in Italy, England meet Germany, in their most important game for 24 years – the World Cup Semi-Final! Meanwhile, in Majorca, Bill and Monica are on Holiday trying to rekindle their troubled marriage. Monica has been dreaming of an affair with Gary Lineker, the “Queen Mother of Football”, though she is in fact seeing a client of Bill’s, travel writer and Stoke City fanatic Dan Hudson. Dan’s unexpected arrival at the hotel sets them all on edge as he raises the stakes between Bill and Monica, as well as challenging Bill’s friend Ian’s attempts to bed and wed the local anglophile german holiday rep, “the lovely Birgitta”. They settle down to watch the game on tv, and through ninety minutes, extra time and the infamous penalty shoot-out, the struggle switches between the italian football pitch and the hotel room as Monica, Bill and the England Team approach the inevitable........
“Congratulations, brilliant and well done to what is easily the funniest play in the West End and probably the funniest play in the universe” – Daily Express
“The jokes are as fast and deadly as a penalty shoot-out” – Financial Times
2. COME BLOW YOUR HORN BY NEIL SIMON
He’s a legend on Broadway and earns even more for his script-doctoring than he does for his plays – which is pretty incredible when you consider that he can write comedy of this quality! After learning his craft with Sid Caesar, he exploded onto the Great White Way with this fresh and delightful comedy in 1961. Harry Baker, owner of the largest artificial fruit business on the East Coast, has two sons. One, Alan, is a 33 year old playboy, the other, Buddy, a 21 year old with the urge to assert himself. Whilst Alan only works two days a week (going on skiing and golfing breaks with attractive females for the other five), Buddy moves into Alan’s bachelor apartment, and seemingly, his bachelor lifestyle. whilst his aghast father looks on with mounting disbelief, his mother worries herself insane about whether he is getting enough appetisers! Not to mention the constant stream of attractive young women that seem to arrive at Alan’s apartment at exactly the wrong moment. Richly comic complications ensue as parents learn to let go of their children, and young men look at their lives in a new light.
“A slick, lively, funny comedy” – N.Y.Times
“It’s completely nuts and banging with laughs” – N.Y. World Telegram & Sun
3. CHANGING ROOMS BY MARC CAMOLLETTI. ADAPTED BY Jonathan Holloway
A previously unseen play by the Award-winning author of “Boeing Boeing” and “Don’t Dress For Dinner”, newly adapted for the British Stage by the Artistic Director of Red Shift Theatre Company. Camolletti’s work has been a favourite in the West End and on Broadway with both audiences and critics, with the recent revival of “Boeing Boeing” winning Tony Awards for Best Revival and Best Actor (Mark Rylance). Bernard, recently appointed as a high flying government official, is desperately trying to get some time alone with his mistress, Brigitte. Jacqueline, his wife, is desperately trying (in between crashing the car and buying antiques) to get some time alone with her lover Robert. Nana, their housekeeper, is desperately trying to get a quiet weekend in her employers apartment – without her employers! When each of them think they have managed to get rid of the others, they all set about fulfilling their heart’s desire – with predictably hilarious results. Set in the stylish world of 70’s Parisian society, this fast-moving farce will leave audiences breathlessly delighted!
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!! AND MORE LAUGHS THAN YOU CAN SHAKE A STICK AT!!
